Changing the brightness and contrast of a video

Adjusting exposure and contrast can make a video look more appealing or ensure it better matches the brightness of other videos you are editing it with.

Step 1. Add your video or image to the timeline

Drag and drop the video or image from Your media library into the timeline.

Step 2. Click on your video in the timeline

Click on your video in the timeline so it's highlighted green. An editing sidebar will appear on the right-hand side of the editor.

Step 3. Click the adjust colors tab

To edit the colors of your video, click on the adjust colors tab on the right sidebar.

Using the sliders, move a slider left and right to edit your video's exposure, saturation, temperature, contrast, and opacity. To change the brightness of your video, we recommend using exposure, saturation, and contrast editing features.

Undoing a brightness or contrast change

You can return a video to its original state at any time by selecting it in the timeline, clicking on the adjust color tab and clicking the reset button. Alternatively, drag and drop the original video into your timeline again from your media tab.

Preset filters

If you don't want to spend time adjusting sliders, our preset filters are a useful way to quickly improve the look of your videos. For more information, see: adding filters.
