You can use Clipchamp's AI voice over feature (currently in BETA testing stage) to add AI voice overs to your video projects. How does it work? Simply pick a narrator you like from our list, type the text you want them to say, preview it, and click add. The computer-generated narration will be added to your project as an audio file.

To get the most out of this feature, we recommend reading our step-by-step guide below, which gives you some tips and tricks for how to use it.

_____________

Adding AI generated voice overs

First start an editing project or open an existing project, then:

1. Click on Add Media > Generate AI voice over

Click the plus symbol in the left menu to get to the Add Media screen. Then click the purple Generate AI voice over button (next to the Record screen button).

2. Choose a voice / narrator from the list

There are 6 voices to choose from – 3 male and 3 female – with different accents, ages and narration styles. Click the play symbol next to each to listen to a sample:

3. Type your text and generate a preview

Type into the text field and click the Generate preview button. You'll hear what the voiceover will sound like.

PRO TIP: You can switch voices by clicking another narrator and generating a preview with the same text. The six narrators have different ways of saying things, so if you're struggling to get one to say your text right, try another.

4. Adjust the text spelling and punctuation to fix pronunciation issues

Because the voice-over is artificially generated, you may need to adjust the way you spell things to get names or words to sound right.

For example, in this voice over below we changed the word "ogre" to "owger", the name "Eustace" to "Yoostus", the name "Charlotte" to "Sharlut", and the word "lived" to "livved" (to get a shorter i sound):

If numbers are not being pronounced how you want them, try writing them out in full, e.g. 1984 > "nineteen eighty-four".

For a short pause, add a comma or dash.

For a long pause, add a full stop.

Other punctuation, such as speech marks, question marks, line breaks or exclamation marks are unlikely to have an effect on the way the text is spoken.'

PRO TIP: Sometimes the length of the passage you type, or the order in which you type words and sentences, will affect the way they get spoken. If you're not getting quite the narration style or emphasis you're hoping for, try splitting your text up into segments and generating separate audio clips. This might also make it easier to add longer pauses and line up your text segments with the right parts of your video.

5. Once you're happy, click Add to media library

To add the voiceover to your project, click the Add to media library button.

The audio files you generate will be saved as WAV files to your computer into whichever folder you choose (e.g. your Downloads folder). Be sure to keep these files on your computer as you may need to relink them to your project in future.

Close the voice over window to return to the editor, and you'll see the audio file like this in your media area:

PRO TIP: Save the text you use to create your voice overs in a separate text document outside of Clipchamp, e.g. a Word document. Why? Because once you've added a voice file to your project you won't be able to retrieve the text you used to create it or to change what it says. So if you want to adjust it later, you can paste the text from the external document into the generator (rather than having to type it out again), make the changes you want, and easily generate a new voice over file.

6. Add your AI voice over files to the timeline and edit them

Once you add your voice over files to your project, they will load in the Media area. Drag and drop them where you want them in the timeline.

In the timeline you can use the split tool to divide voice-over audio files into segments and move them around, e.g. to add or shorten pauses or remove unwanted words or sentences.

7. Export your project

Once you're done adding voice over narration and are ready to save your project, simply click Export in the top right.

Here's an example of the kind of video you can create using our AI voice over feature:
